After we left the Orchid House we walked around the grounds. Over near the lake there was a tree that had seeds hanging in large clumps. I'd never seen these before.

Most corsages are made from these orchids. I remember seeing them around Mother's Day in every store. Not so much now, but when I was a kid they'd be everywhere.

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!!! I embellished my Orchid today in honor of the Year of the Rat. The Chinese year is 4706.

Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in Rat years tend to be leaders, pioneers, and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking.

May this year bring you Peace, Good Health, Happiness and Prosperity!!

The Arboretum has an Orchid House. Once my camera got adjusted to the humidity I was able to get some shots of the beautiful orchids that were displayed.
